Jazz Piano Professor Erwin Stuckey is a native Cincinnatian who is committed to nurturing the talents of young people in the tri-state area. Upon graduating from Western Hills High School in Cincinnati, he received the Kaiser Scholarship Award for classical percussion studies at the College Conservatory of Music. He earned his BME in percussion and Music Education from the Conservatory and also became the first African American student in the history of CCM to earn a Masters Degree in jazz piano performance. Currently, he enjoys teaching several students at NKU in class piano, jazz piano, advanced jazz chamber ensemble, and African American Music Studies.

Erwin feels "truly blessed" to be able to share his knowledge and experience to so many musicians. Before joining the NKU faculty, he has taught jazz piano, jazz percussion, jazz history and improvisation at the College Conservatory of Music, Xavier University, Central State University, and the Blue Lake Fine Arts Camp in Twin Lake Michigan. Also, one of his most inspirational teaching experiences was at Bloom Middle School in Cincinnati Public Schools (1997-2001). He states "The Bloom experience prepared me for so many other jobs in the professional teaching field."

In addition to being a master motivator and mentor for young musicians, Erwin's artistry is highly regarded in the world of jazz performance. He has performed extensively in the United States and South America. Erwin is internationally recognized as a true multi-instrumentalist capable of handling a multitude of genres randing from traditional jazz, Afro Cuban, and even contemporary gospel. He has performed high profile concerts with some of the world's finest musicians such as John Blake, Malachi Thompson, Frank Foster, Ben Tankard, Kenny Garrett, Terrel Stafford, Steve Wilson, Marlon Jordan, Pharez Witted, Mary Wilson (Motown Supremes), Marion Meadows, and James Carter. HIs most recent high profile concert was a stunning performance on a drumset and piano with saxophone virtuoso Joshua Redmond (2003 CCM). Erwin discography includes 17 recordings. He has just released a CD titled Giants of Jazz Piano which honors jazz piano greats from Scott Joplin through McCoy Tyner (Groovemasterworks Publishing 2004). When not teaching at NKU, he also enjoys his appointment as Music Minister of the Solid Rock Baptist Fellowship of Cincinnati.
